Last remaining copies of my debut photography book from 2014 - recently found a box of old stock so selling the last of these before it is completely out of print.

Precious Metals is a square-shaped artist monograph, collaboratively compiled by both Jack Mannix & Sophie Kitson. This comprehensive 96pp full-colour soft-cover perfect bound photography book houses a curated selection of over 100 striking portraits and still life images captured by Mannix since 2005. It was developed originally for an exhibition of the same name at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne 2014, although its real purpose is to survey the widest selection of Mannix's photography to date.

The Preface is written by curator Sophie Kitson; with a critical writing piece by none other than the legendary cultural anthropologist Jack Sargeant. A thoughtful, more involved discussion of Mannix's work is written by Angela Garrick; and a conversational introduction to Precious Metals is written by the artist himself, Jack Mannix.

Mannix's photography is intimate and raw - shunning digital photography in favour of analogue film-based photography and working with natural light/settings, and sometimes flash. None of these images are staged, simply captured and documented for posterity. The work is often likened to the early work of Nan Goldin, Larry Clark, Rennie Ellis - the photographs serve as a visual document of a time. Youth, excess, sex, desperation, beauty, pain, bliss - all captured in moments. Portraits, still lives & abstract images come together to form a loose narrative that is at once a personal visual diary and a historical document of an era.
