Starring is the new book from photographer Jack Mannix. Shot between 2022-2025 across four continents, this dreamlike collection of photographs show the world as Mannix sees it - delirious, glamorous, surreal and occult. Mannix shoots exclusively on film, and with minimal intervention - an attempt at documenting reality in search of the divine, the unreal, magic.
Recurring characters, themes, environments and motifs appear throughout in an abstract, circular narrative - creating a hypnotic flow of images which begin to reveal layers of meaning and association, as well as the inner obsessions of the photographer.
This book signals an evolution (both personally and artistically) since his previous book, Precious Metals (2014) - Starring is more refined and obtuse, aiming higher and sinking deeper, while still retaining his signature eye and enduring fascination with beauty, death, sex, spirituality, excess, gore and symbolism.
